Destroy Shame and Limiting Beliefs
Shame and limiting beliefs are side effects of messages we have grown up with and so have internalised. Consciously or not, these things govern a lot of our behaviours, thoughts and motivations- they are the source of why we end up repeating unwanted patterns in our life. Patterns in relationships (platonic or romantic), lifestyle (like eating, smoking, drinking, or sexual behaviour) and how we actually perceive the world around us.
TRY THIS EXPERIMENT: Take a long breath in and out… and take a moment now to sit with how you’re feeling in your physical and emotional body. Look at something nearby- what kind of emotion does it conjur up? If it is not curiosity, neutral contentment, interest or pleasure- then start throwing compliments at it; about its shape or colour – whatever you can think of! Say 10 compliments beginning with “I love…” either out loud or in your mind. You may feel silly at first but notice how both your mood has lifted and perhaps you grew a funny appreciation for the thing you focused on. You may find that when you look at this thing tomorrow, you will be reminded of this experiment and feel lighter! This is a real-time example of how we can destroy a belief and alter our perception of a thing or situation.
